About twiddletoes

History

twiddletoes was created about six years ago after cringing over people shoving their flipflops on over their regular socks. I started off knitting them for the biggest offenders in my life -- my dad and my husband -- but quickly expanded when I realized that there was quite a bit of interest in my tabi. From there, I took my wares to craft shows and festivals.

twiddletoes has since expanded to include the Simple Luxury line.  These socks are simple in construction, yet finely crafted from the most luxurious natural fibers available, including cashmere, alpaca, and yak.

twiddletoes stand out

twiddletoes tabi come from a pattern that I designed, after finding myself unsatisfied with so many of the available patterns. Over the years, I've improved and modified this pattern to what it is today. Some of these features include:

  • A ribbed cuff for elasticity and a comfortable fit for just about any ankle width.
  • Grafted toes that eliminate rubbing and discomfort around the toes.
  • Reinforced heel 'rise' to prevent rubbing and wear when wearing inside shoes and boots.
  • Reinforcement between the toes to prevent flipflop thongs from wearing through and rubbing.

Likewise, my traditional toes, whimsy toes, and other creations come from patterns that I've created to suit my particular knitting style and taste.

I use very high quality yarns, my favorite being an American made, 85% wool, 15% mohair blend. It's warm, it comes in many vibrant colorways, and it's hard wearing. Not great if you're allergic or sensitive to wool, but I'm experimenting and working on bringing new alternative yarn to my shops.
